# Xero

> Connect Xero to import bills and bank spend into ClearSpend — read-only, with support for multiple organisations.

The **Xero** integration (tagged **Track Spend**) links one or more Xero organisations so ClearSpend can import vendor bills and bank or card spend — then match them to invoices and receipts.

<Note>
  **Read-only.** ClearSpend reads from Xero. It never posts or edits transactions in your Xero file.
</Note>

## What you get

| Result | Where to see it |
| -------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------- |
| Bills and bank spend from Xero | **[Transactions](/features/transactions)** |
| Vendors grouped as subscriptions | **[Subscriptions](/features/subscriptions)** |
| Source records for audit         | **[Documents](/features/documents)**         |

You can also **export** reconciled transactions from ClearSpend in Xero's bank-statement import format — useful when you want to bring matched spend back into Xero manually.

## Who can connect

**Owners** and **Admins** can connect and disconnect Xero. See [Roles and permissions](/reference/roles-permissions).

You need a Xero login with permission to authorize third-party apps for the organisations you select.

## Connect Xero

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Integrations">
    Go to **Integrations** in the sidebar.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Find Xero">
    Locate the **Xero** card under **Track Spend**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Connect">
    Click **Connect**. You are redirected to Xero's sign-in screen.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in and grant access">
    Sign in and allow ClearSpend to read accounting data. You can authorize more than one Xero organisation in a single login.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick organisations to sync">
    ClearSpend shows every organisation you authorized. Select the ones you want to import, then confirm. A first sync starts automatically for your selection.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check Integrations">
    When sync completes, the **Xero** card shows linked organisations and **last sync** time.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Multiple Xero organisations

Xero often holds separate books per entity or region. During setup you choose which organisations ClearSpend should sync — you are not required to import all of them.

Each selected organisation appears on the **Xero** card on **Integrations**. Run **Sync now** on any row to refresh that organisation's data.

## After you're connected

| Action | When to use it |
| ------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Sync now** | Pull the latest bills and bank transactions from Xero |
| **Reconnect** | OAuth token expired or access was revoked in Xero |
| **Delete** | Remove the connection (data already imported stays in your workspace) |

Progress appears in the [Activity log](/features/activity).

## Export to Xero format

On **[Transactions](/features/transactions)**, use **Export** and choose **Xero — bank statement import**. ClearSpend downloads a CSV shaped for Xero's bank-statement import — handy when you want to move reconciled spend back into Xero on your own schedule.

## How it fits your workflow

1. **Xero** brings in bills and spend already in your accounting file.
2. **Gmail, Drive, or upload** adds invoice PDFs and receipts.
3. **[Transactions](/features/transactions)** highlights what still needs proof.

Finance gets one reconciliation view without duplicating bookkeeping in two systems.

## Common questions

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Does ClearSpend write back to Xero?">
    No. The integration is read-only. Export gives you a file you can import into Xero yourself if you choose.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I add another Xero organisation later?">
    Reconnect Xero or run through setup again to authorize additional organisations, then include them in your selection.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How is Xero different from Plaid?">
    Xero reflects what is already in your accounting file. Plaid pulls live card and bank feeds. Teams often use Xero when books are the source of truth and Plaid when they need real-time card data.
